Pool update

Email from Harry Allen

The pebble sheen was applied to the pool this morning.  I took lots of photos.  Pretty amazing process.  Hard work!

I believe it gets an acid wash next.

The pool light may be installed tomorrow.

I’ll be heading off to work in the morning.  Please keep me posted on the happenings with photos.

Pool update

Email from Harry Allen

Here’s a quick update on the pool and spa project.

The Maricopa Co inspector was out this morning to inspect the drains on each.  I was about 10-15 min away when Teresa called and advised me that he was here and the pool fencing was off.  We knew that, but had it roped off.  It was removed for the deck project.  At any rate, Charla and I put the fence back on and that satisfied the inspector.   Susan arrived a minute or two later and it is now permanently reattached.

The fence passed inspection.

The drains and intake passed inspection.

The next step is to fill the drains with concrete and any in-laws you may want to get rid of.  The more in-laws, the less concrete.

The cement will take a few days to dry and he believed the pebble sheen should be on by the weekend.

The deck has a coat of color on it now.  I think it gets more.

The deck is being fitted with the deck depth and no-dive markers.  Kinda noisy, kinda dusty.  They are actually cut into the concrete.

I’m talking to Leslie’s Pools about the pool light.  If they don’t have a plan by mid morning, we’ll get someone else to replace the light.  That will be the end of Leslie’s Juniper business if another store will work with a commercial account.

The ramada overhaul was delayed due to the deck project.

The decking looks spectacular, particularly under the ramada where it was nasty concrete.

I think it’s time to shop sconce lighting to replace the Barnum and Bailey Circus lights atop the pillars.  I’d like to submit that to the city when we are in a position to do it.  We need bids and the concept established.

Pool update

Email from Harry Allen

The pool project is coming along really well.  The deck drains are installed.  The “lace” is applied to the southern half of the deck.  The northern half is getting the base coat this afternoon.  The entire deck will get the acrylic coating tomorrow, I think.

You will notice the deck drain is vastly better than the drains we saw when touring other projects.

The fencing is cut away temporarily to allow for installation of the drain and decking.

Leslie’s should be by to install a new pool light under warranty.  This must happen prior to filling it with water.

The county should be by to inspect the pool and spa drains and jet pump intake.  Once inspected, those projects can move forward.

The pillars are painted on the inside and the ramada project is also underway.

I leave for work before daybreak tomorrow.  Please update me with simple iPhone photos each day with the changes or if there are any issues that arise.

At the end of each day, please ensure CAUTION tape is blocking the construction zone.

Central Swale Project update

We will start the Central Swale Project straight away, as they say in the UK.

The Central Swale is the area where the mailboxes are and includes the entire water retention basin north of the pool.

You'll notice that I have painted an initial suggested curb line.  So, I'll be out there walking the line and making adjustments to it.

If you live north and east of the line it will be called, "The Siegfried Line".  If you live south and west of the line, it will be called, "The Maginot Line".

Here's the price list for input to the curb line:

Opinions:  $1
Strong Opinions $10
Opinions Strong Enough to Move the Line $20

I'm kidding of course... Opinions strong enough to move the line are $50.

Cabernet may be substituted for cash where the law allows.

; - )

I'll also be painting planting dots and circles for the new plants.

The general idea of this project is to move the water away from the street and walls and add beautifying plants, curbing, gravel and hummingbird habitat.  The project will resemble the project we did a few years back along Juniper Street.

So, we will:

1.  Draw and adjust the curb line as desired.
2.  Spray the grass we intend on removing next to the street and walls.
3.  Repair and paint the associated walls and any cars parked close enough for overspray
4.  Adjust sprinkler positions as required.
5.  Install curbing
6.  Install plants
7.  Install gravel
8.  Toast the project

I've included a few before and afters from the Juniper Street project.  Notice that the marquis were water damaged and the areas were completed dead.  We have refreshed them since these shots were taken, but they are due again.

Yes.  The marquis were bathroom tiles on stucco.  I know, right?  The slate pillars were just stucco.  The wall tiles were about 10 - 20 % missing.  The area where the gate to Trader Joe's is was wall to wall grass, then wall to wall cat litter and trash.  It was horrid.  Plus, about 50 feet or so of the walls had crumbled to the ground.  To the ground!

So, Bogle is a good cabernet.

See you on The Line!

Central swale project begins in February

Improvements to the central swale that runs behind the homes on Redmon between Willow and S Butte will begin in February.

The work is similar to what was done on the swale that parallels Juniper on the west side of the property.  A curb line will be added in front of the wall with turf in that area replaced by rock and xeriscape planting.  Drainage tiles and rip rap rock will be put along the bottom of the swale to facilitate water dispersement and reduce mosquito activity.

Painted curb lines will be drawn and a turf killer applied. Approximately two weeks later, project work will begin.

For questions, post a comment or contact any board member.
